The calorific value of pyrolysis oil can reach 44.20 ~ 45.09 MJ/kg. The purified pyrolysis oil can be used to extract chemicals and make fuels. Carbon black is the precursor of activated carbon, and the syngas can be used directly as fuel.

How the Tire Recycling Pyrolysis Plant Works?

The tire recycling pyrolysis plant uses the pyrolysis process to convert waste tires into valuable renewable resources, including tire pyrolysis oil, carbon black, steel wire and synthesis gas.

The working process of tire recycling pyrolysis plant is as follows:

  1. Waste tires are sent to the tire recycling pyrolysis plant after pretreatment. Pretreatment includes removing impurities and cutting them into suitable sizes.
  2. The pretreated tires are heated in the pyrolysis reactor. After about 3 hours of heating, pyrolysis oil and gas are produced and flow into the cooling system. The tire pyrolysis process usually takes 8-10 hours.
  3. The gaseous products enter the condenser to achieve oil and gas separation. And the fractions are separated to obtain gasoline fraction, diesel fraction and heavy oil fraction, etc.
  4. The non-condensable pyrolysis gas enters the tail gas purification system. After purification, it is circulated for heating the pyrolysis reactor.
  5. In addition, the residual solids in pyrolysis reactor are treated by magnetic separation to obtain steel wire and crude carbon black. The crude carbon black can be further processed to obtain activated carbon and carbon black.

Tyre Pyrolysis Process in Reactor

The pyrolysis process of tires is a complex process. The waste tires in pyrolysis reactor are slowly heated by an external heat source. In different temperature sections, the corresponding components in the tires undergo a complex process of depolymerization, polycondensation and cyclization.

Waste tires generally begin to change at around 200℃, mainly the decomposition of plasticizers and organic additives. Natural rubber and synthetic rubber begin to crack at 300℃. The pyrolysis of waste tires is basically completed at around 500℃.

Below 200℃, the rubber powder in waste tyre pyrolysis plant is basically not decomposed. Between 200 and 300℃, the characteristic viscosity of rubber changes rapidly, and low molecular weight substances are “distilled”. The remaining solids are not completely decomposed, so they are not pure carbon black, but insoluble dry substances. Above 300℃, the collected oil and gas have a strong oil smell and good fluidity. The upper layer is light yellow and transparent, and the lower layer is black.

And as the temperature rises, the oil yield increases, but the fluidity and color change little. In addition, the solid carbon is completely generated and in powder form. When the temperature rises to 500℃, the waste tire recycling pyrolysis process is basically over, and the subsequent temperature rise will lead to secondary decomposition of the pyrolysis products.

Secondary pyrolysis (500℃~900℃). When the temperature is low, the main pyrolysis is of natural rubber. While when the temperature is high, the main pyrolysis is of synthetic rubber.
